Iran witnessed Sunday fresh clashes between the regime and the so-called Green Movement that resulted in the death of at least five protesters including a nephew of opposition leader, Mir Hossein Mousavi. The day marked the martyrdom of Prophet’s grand son Imam Hossein in the 7th century. It was also the seventh day since the death of Grand Ayatollah Hussein Ali Montazeri, prominent spiritual leader aligned with the opposition to the regime.

Demonstrations were staged in several cities. At least five protesters were shot in Tehran and reportedly four more in Tabriz, according to reports. Their fury was directed at President Ahmadinejad and Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Syed Ali Mousavi, 35, the opposition leader’s nephew, was among those shot in the capital. He reportedly received bullet injuries in the head.
