Firearms, ammunition seized in Dhaka

Dhaka: Police on Friday seized a machinegun, a pistol loaded with bullets, grenades and several kilograms of gunpowder from a mess in Mirpur area of the city.

On secret information police raided the mess in Shah Ali Mazar area and seized the guns and ammunition, Abdul Latif, officer-in-charge of the Shah Ali Police Station, told the daily Prothom-Alo.

He said police entered the house in Uttar Bishil after breaking open the door and recovered the arms and bullets but failed to arrest anybody in this regard. The law enforcers also seized some books on Islamic revolution from the room.

2.Another BNP activist killed in Meherpur

Dhaka:  A BNP activist was killed in a bomb attack at Gopalnagar in Gangni upazila in Meherpur on Thursday night, nine hours after killing of a BNP leader in the district.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Bariq, 40 son of late Roice Uddin of he village. Local BNP leaders claimed that Bariq was their party activist.

Police recovered the body Friday morning.

Getting an anonymous phone call at about 8:45 pm, Bariq went out of home on Thursday evening police said quoting family members.

Later in the morning, local people found his body at a bush in the village.

Acting Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangni police station told The Daily Star two eyes of the victim were gouged out and marks of stabbings were also found in the body.

“Initially we are suspecting an extra-marital affair beyond the killing. But more investigation is needed,” he added.

Bariq was married and father of a three years old son.

Azizul Islam, organising secretary of Sholotaka union unit BNP claimed that Bariq was a BNP activist.

When Contacted, Masud Arun, former BNP lawmaker in Meherpur-1 also claimed Bariq as his party activist and the killing was a sequel of ill motive for stopping BNP activities in the district.

Earlier on Thursday, criminals killed BNP leader Afaz Uddin, 45 at Amdah in sadar upazila in Meherpur.

Afaz was president of Mahajanpur union unit BNP also former member of Mahajanpur union parishad (UP) in Mujibnagar upazila.

BNP will demonstrate in Gangni upazila and Meherpur town on Friday in protest of the murder. http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesign/latest_news.php?nid=25045
