Ballot in Egypt amidst continued turmoil

 
Elections are an important step towards ushering in functional democracy. This truism need not necessarily be true in the case of Egypt where a reality check shows that the downfall of President Mubarak has not resolved any of the socio-economic and political issues staring at the people. Hopes pinned on the military as “protector of the revolution” and “caretaker of a democratic transition” are also being shattered amidst indications that the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood is the likely beneficiary of disillusionment. ...

Fresh flare-up of ethnic violence in Xinjiang

 
China has not gained an upper hand in its 'battle' against the Uighur groups. It sees these groups as a part of a terrorist network with links to al -Qaeda. Uighur groups are known to get armed training and weapons from the state patronized jihadi outfits in Pakistan. Yet, China has not name them either and merely termed the Khotan clashes as ‘an organized terrorist attack’....

US Uses The Stick Against Pakistan

 
The turn of events show that Pakistan’s assumption that having fooled the US on Indian fears they can take the Americans for a ride indefinitely are going wrong. Clearly, the all-powerful ‘in-house’ presiding deity overstepped when it became more audacious, arresting US diplomats, expelling military trainers and generating a virulent anti-US atmosphere in the country where radicalism in any case has taken deep roots. ...
