Afghan minister escapes Taliban attack
KABUL – A suicide car bomb explosion targeting Afghanistan's energy minister killed four civilians Sunday.
The Minister Ismail Khan was going to the airport in a convoy iwhen a suicide car bomb exploded outside a high school. He heescaped but four civilians died and four of Khan's bodyguards were injured.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid, claimed responsibility and said the explosion targeted Khan, who was oncegovernor of Hera, a western province bordering Iran.
Taliban has stepped up assassination attempts against Afghan officialsthis year, with more than 100 officials and pro-government tribal elders attacked — half of them fatally.
